Overview

Weaving Emotions was conceived as the first major exhibition for the inaugural opening of the Taichung Fiber Craft Museum, establishing the curatorial and cultural framework of the institution.

Curated by Patricio Sarmiento, the project positioned bamboo weaving as both a material technique and a narrative structure, connecting Taiwanese craft heritage with contemporary design and international collaboration. Developed in close collaboration with the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) and Taiwanese partners, the exhibition explored bamboo as a sustainable material embedded in both tradition and innovation.

The exhibition unfolded as an immersive journey structured through multiple sections, including a bamboo path, displays of weaving tools and techniques, video installations, light-and-shadow environments, masterworks by Taiwanese bamboo artisans, and a section dedicated to France–Taiwan collaborations developed through Hand in Hand. A final section presented contemporary workshop outcomes, linking heritage to ongoing experimentation.

Presented across the museum’s main gallery, entrance hall, outdoor plaza, and public installations, the project expanded beyond object display to create a complete scenographic and sensory experience.

As an inaugural exhibition, Weaving Emotions contributed to positioning the museum as a platform for craft innovation, international dialogue, and the transmission of savoir-faire.
